ILiAD organizes items in two ways:
- By Collection - A Collection contains individual items created or belonging to a specific individual
or entity (Collection Owner).
- By Catalog - A Catalog contains items created in a given year (or in the case of a publication such
as a photo album, its year of completion). A dedicated Catalogue exists for items where this information is unknown.
A listing of available Collections may be accessed via the Collections in the Menu
Bar. You may view individual items by selecting them from the list.
A listing of available Catalogs may be accessed via the Catalogs in the Menu Bar. You
may view individual items by selecting them from the list.
The Search option permits locating items by ID number, item name, or item description.
You must log into your account in order to search the database or to view the items it
contains.
Conventions
The descriptive text for each item in the database follows a number of coding conventions where applicable for consistency and
to facilitate searches (provided the information in question is known):
-
Country Names - Except for the United States, country names are identified by their two-letter
ISO Country Code; US states and territories are identified by
their two letter codes.
-
Region Names - Region names are generally, though not always, identified by their accepted
abbreviations; this applies predominantly to non-US State or Province names.
-
Place-Names - Most place-names are identified with their local names/local language using the
Latin alphabet (with diacresis where applicable), or transliterated accordingly for non-Latin alphabets languages
such as Greek or Mandarin.
-
Date Format - Full dates, as they apply to item dating, follow a
YYYYMMDD convention
where such date information is available.
